Thank you
for visiting the Jake Calhoun Support Website. Your interest in Jake's recovery
is appreciated by the Calhoun family.
Jake was just 22 years old on Feb 23rd, 2002. While
on his way to work at Malcolm Smith Motorcycles in Riverside Jake traveled
over some very rough roadway on a Hwy 91 exchange and lost control
of his motorcycle. The motorcycle first accelerated and traveled across
several lanes of traffic and then slammed into the center divider of the Riverside Freeway.
In
that accident Jake fractured the vertebrae in his
neck from C2 down thru C6 with the worst being C4 & C5. Jake's Spinal cord
was severely injured at the C3 thru C5 level resulting in Quadriplegia. Jake
currently has no feeling or movement below his shoulders.
Jake's
family would like to publicly thank Jake's Neurosurgeon, Dr. Steven Marvin,
and Jake's Rehab physician, Dr.
Garrett, as well as the staff of the Surgical Intensive Care Unit #2 at
Riverside Community Hospital. Everyone took wonderful care of Jake after
his accident!
Jake was transferred from the SICU to Casa
Colina Rehab Hospital in Pomona, CA and stayed there until April 20th, 2002.
Jake was released to go home where his brother Phil & other caregivers help provide
around the clock care for Jake.
Please join us in praying for God's miraculous touch on Jake. We are praying
Jake will make a incredible recovery!
